TikTok Indonesia's e-commerce business will be merged with GoTo Group's e-commerce platform Tokopedia, and the merged Tokopedia will be controlled by TikTok.

According to reports, TikTok e-commerce business, which had previously bid farewell to the local market because of policy, will also be launched again on the "Indonesian online Shopping Day" on December 12, and TikTok has also promised to invest US $1.5 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 10.77 billion yuan) in the next few years to provide financial support for business development.

TikTok will work with GoTo to provide a series of support in marketing, brand and internationalization to help local small and medium-sized businesses develop, the two sides said in a statement. On the day of the resumption of launch, TikTok and Tokopedia will also jointly launch the "Buy Local products" (Beli Lokal) campaign to help the development of local enterprises in Indonesia.

Jerry Sambuaga, Deputy Minister of Trade of Tuyuan Pexels Indonesia, said recently that TikTok is free to cooperate with any e-commerce platform as long as it complies with Indonesia's applicable regulations and procedures.

"Social media and e-commerce must be separated so that algorithms are not completely controlled and personal data can be prevented from being used commercially," Zulkifli Hasan, Indonesia's trade minister, said in late September, as CTOnews.com previously reported.
