CTOnews.com, December 18, according to Bloomberg Beijing time at noon today, people familiar with the matter claimed that Arm recently laid off more than 70 software engineers in China and transferred some positions outside Asia.

About 15 of the laid-off employees will be assigned to work on China-related projects, according to one of the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity. Another person, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the job cuts were currently "at the top" of contract software engineers who had been involved in projects involving Arm's global operations.

"to ensure that China's software ecosystem can take full advantage of the performance and functionality of Arm, Arm is reorganizing its software engineering resources in China, focusing on direct support for local developers," Arm said in a statement.

Arm outsourced the work of supporting Chinese customers to Arm China through a division called Global Services, which at one point employed nearly 200 people. About 70 employees in the department are likely to face layoffs or job changes, according to people familiar with the matter. Arm did not respond to requests for comment.

Jason Child, Arm's chief financial officer, told analysts in November that China's contribution to Arm's global sales fell from 25 per cent to about 20 per cent because of faster growth in the rest of the world.

As previously reported by CTOnews.com, Reuters quoted Arm's Chinese joint venture, Amou Technology, as saying in February that it had announced 90-95 job cuts in response to this year's challenging business prospects. The employees who were laid off were mainly engineers in the R & D department, according to two sources. Before the layoffs, Arm China had about 700 employees, according to one of the sources.
