CTOnews.com, December 20 / PRNewswire-Asianet /-- NASA has shared a picture of the stars with the theme of "Christmas Tree" in preparation for the coming Christmas.

The protagonist of this photo, officially named NGC 2264, is about 2500 light-years from Earth, making it a Christmas tree in the universe.

NGC 2264 is a number for the NGC celestial table, but it is actually two celestial bodies identified as a single object: the Cone Nebula and the Christmas Tree Cluster.

The stars in NGC 2264 are between 1 million and 5 million years old, which is relatively young on the cosmic age scale.

The composite photos released this time are more consistent with the shape of the Christmas tree, in which the blue and white dots are young stars, taken by X-rays detected by NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory.

The gas in the nebula is green, corresponding to the "pine needle" of the tree, from infrared data from the two-micron all Sky Survey (Two Micron All Sky Survey).

The image rotates about 160 degrees clockwise from the astronomer's northern standard, so it looks like the top of the tree faces the top of the image.
