Switch password recovery:

The factory settings of the Cisco switch do not have a password, and all kinds of passwords are set later.

Their passwords are saved in the configuration file config.text in flash and can be checked through the "dir" command. Very often, the password is forgotten for a variety of reasons.

Password recovery process:

1: unplug the switch:

2: reseat the power supply and press the "mode" key on the switch. When you see the "switch" command prompt on the configuration interface, you can release the "mode" key.

This means that you have entered a simple Los specially used for fault recovery. Because there is no password, the normal Los cannot enter, so you can only set some parameters here.

3: initialize flash with the command "flash-init" prompted above

4: change the config.text file to config.old switch# rename flash:config.text flash:config.old

In this way, the configuration file will not be loaded when the system is rebooted, and of course there will be no password.

5: restart the switch switch#boot

You can enter Los now, but password recovery is not complete now, because there are not only passwords in the configuration file, but also many other parameter settings that must be restored.

6: change the name of the configuration file back

Switch# rename flash:config.old flash:config.text

7: manually load the configuration file: switch# copy flash:config.text system:running-config

8: after the configuration file is loaded, you need to enter the configuration mode to change the password, and finally save the configuration to complete the password recovery.
