Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, December 1 (Xinhua)-- humanoid robots are still not as good as human beings in standing and walking. When the robot is not walking steadily, a new study allows the robot to hold the wall to maintain balance.
Researchers at the University of Lorraine in France have developed a "Damage Reflex" system (damage reflex, or D-Reflex) in which a humanoid TALOS robot leans itself against a wall when one of its legs is broken, just like a person who has just lost his balance.
According to the researchers, the robot is equipped with a neural network-based system that uses its experience (882000 training simulations) to quickly find the points on the wall that are most likely to provide stability. The robot does not need to know how it is damaged and can reach out to the wall as quickly as a human being.
However, the robot cannot limp on the wall like a human, so it can only hold the wall still and wait for rescue.
CTOnews.com learned that researchers wanted to build a system that would be useful in movement and envisioned that the robot could grab chairs and other complex objects when it was about to fall, saving the cost of replacing the robot. The findings were published on IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters earlier this year.
Earlier this year, the Technical University of Munich launched another robot that can support walls, called LOLA, which can walk on uneven ground and "subconsciously" hold the walls on both sides. Both studies are under way, hoping for further breakthroughs.
