Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com February 11 news, Brazilian journalist Rodrigo Ghedin reported earlier this month that Apple Maps has a private BUG that allows App to collect user location data without user permission.
Apple has fixed this BUG in the latest iOS 16.3 update. Apple issued a statement to several tech media, including AppleInsider, on Friday, saying there was no evidence that App exploited the vulnerability.
Apple said iOS had never been at risk and that the iFood takeout app mentioned in the report did not bypass user-set privacy controls. CTOnews.com translates the statement as follows:
Apple has always believed that when and with whom to share data, this right should be in the hands of users. We released a privacy vulnerability announcement last week that can only be exploited by non-sandboxie apps on macOS.
We then shared this code base with iOS and iPadOS, tvOS and watchOS, so fixes and recommendations covered these operating systems, but they were never at risk.
It is wrong to say that this vulnerability could allow applications to bypass user control on iPhone.
A report also mistakenly suggests that an iOS application is exploiting this or another vulnerability to bypass user control of location data. Our follow-up investigation concluded that the application did not evade user control through any mechanism.
According to Brazilian journalist Rodrigo Ghedin, local takeout app iFood can still use the above BUG to track users' location even if users turn off access to the location of the app on the iOS 16.2 system.
