CTOnews.com November 24 news, Japan's Orix subsidiary KOIKE recently joined the Industrial Technology Research Institute, successfully developed a new material for solid-state batteries, can greatly extend the service life.

KOIKE collaborates to develop new single-crystal materials that can be used as electrolytes for solid-state batteries. CTOnews.com Note: After using this material in solid-state batteries, compared with polycrystalline materials, the resistance can be reduced by 90%, which not only promotes the flow of current in the electrolyte, but also prolongs the service life of the battery.

For example, the battery life of existing pacemakers is considered to be about 5 to 10 years, and it is reported that if new technology is used, it is expected to be extended to about 50 years.

KOIKE develops single crystal wafer business for electronic device substrates. ORIX acquired a stake in KOIKE in 2017, making it a consolidated financial subsidiary. KOIKE has been included in the Japan Small and Medium Enterprises Agency's list of "300 manufacturing SMEs nationwide" in the past.

KOIKE has successfully developed high-quality single crystals for batteries with a diameter of 25 mm by utilizing the mass production technology accumulated through its main wafer business. KOIKE will distribute samples to battery manufacturers in the future and strive to achieve mass production from 2027 to 2028.
