Wine 8.21 continues to improve its driver support for Wine Wayland, and currently has preliminary support for HiDPI scaling and Vulkan.

The development team is currently improving support for Vulkan and plans to complete all support for Vulkan before the Wine 9.0 code freezes.

With the vigorous promotion of Collabora's Alexandros Frantzis, the Wine Wayland driver has been continuously improved, and all the components are currently being upstream.

Another important point of Wine 8.21 is to start supporting ARM64EC. ARM64EC is the new ABI,ARM64EC for Windows 11 applications on Arm for "simulation compatibility" to help build new native applications or migrate incrementally from x64 applications to native ARM64.

Wine 8.21 also updated the locale database and approximately 29 known bug fixes, including fixes for Wayland drivers, Direct3D 10 problems, and various games and applications.

Wine (Windows runtime environment) is an implementation of Windows 3.x and Windows API (hereinafter referred to as dynamic interface) on top of Linux and UNIX. Note that Wine is not a tool to simulate Windows, but uses API conversion technology to implement functions corresponding to Linux to Windows to call DLL (dynamic link library) to run Windows programs.

Wine works in most UNIX versions, including Linux, FreeBSD, and Solaris. In addition, there are Wine programs for Mac OS X.
