Research reveals the most fatal cancers in China: lung cancer, liver cancer and gastric cancer

CTOnews.com, December 8 (Xinhua)-- Lung cancer, liver cancer and gastric cancer are the three most fatal cancers in China, according to a new study by six researchers from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the School of Public Health of Capital Medical University.

The relevant research results are published in the journal The Lancet Public Health.

Based on data from the National Mortality Surveillance system, the researchers extracted cancer-related death data and combed and analyzed between 2005 and 2020, by gender and type of cancer, age and sex mortality rates of all cancers and 23 cancer groups in 31 provinces in China.

Studies have shown that lung cancer (in addition to tracheobronchial cancer), liver cancer and gastric cancer are the three most fatal cancers in China.

For men, esophageal cancer and colon cancer are the fourth and fifth fatal cancers, while for women, the fourth and fifth leading causes of death are esophageal cancer and breast cancer, respectively.

It is worth mentioning that between 2005 and 2020, among the fatal cancers among women between the ages of 20 and 39, breast cancer rose from the third to the first, and cervical cancer from the sixth to the third.
