CTOnews.com December 9, the Linux Mint team released the Linux Mint 21.3 Beta ISO image today, and the official version is scheduled to be released this Christmas.

Linux Mint 21.3 is code-named "Virginia". Among the three official versions of the desktop environment, Cinnamon has been upgraded to version 6.0, with initial support for Wayland.

In the latest Cinnamon 6.0, support for Wayland has been initially added in an experimental "Cinnamon on Wayland" session, but the default is still Xorg Server.

Clement Lefebvre, head of the Linux Mint project, believes that the polishing of Wayland will continue until 2026 and will provide complete Wayland support in version 23.x.

In addition to the experimental support for Wayland, the Cinnamon version 6.0 Linux Mint 21.3 Beta image brings other improvements, and the Nemo folder manager right-click menu supports download-related operations.

Cinnamon 6.0also brings updated sound and power Mini Program, support for AVIF images, new gestures for desktop zooming, color picker support in the screen capture service, new menu details options, xdg-portal profiles, and a variety of other improvements.
