However, this radical de-physical button design has been strongly opposed by users, and many car owners complain that it is tedious and inconvenient to use, forcing Volkswagen to reconsider its interior design strategy. As Volkswagen itself said, the move "frustrated customers who should not have been depressed".

CTOnews.com notes that Volkswagen has since restored the design of physical buttons on the steering wheel and hopes to restore its reputation, with Thomas Sch ä fer, the current chief executive, saying that de-keying has "done a lot of damage to the brand".

Volkswagen recently unveiled a new interior design language on its ID.2 concept car, marking a return to an easier-to-use style. A row of physical buttons and knobs have been added under the central console of the ID.2 concept car, making it easy for users to quickly control commonly used functions, such as air conditioning and volume. In addition, the car is also equipped with a central knob similar to the BMW iDrive system, which further improves the ease of operation. The design of these control buttons is also significantly more tactile, and even uses a metal knurled texture, making it easy for passengers to operate without having to look away from the road.

Although not all the controls in the car have returned to physical buttons, this is an important step in the right direction. Volkswagen interior designer Darius Watola (Darius Watola) confirmed that the concept car demonstrates a new design concept for all Volkswagen models, which is an improvement based on customer feedback.

Thomas Schaefer, chief executive of Volkswagen, told Autocar earlier this year: "We will not significantly change the interior layout with the launch of each new model, but will continue to optimize the existing design to make it more in line with future trends without losing ease of use."
