CTOnews.com, December 21, according to a report released by market research firm Canalys this morning, the market for Chinese mainland personal computers (desktops, notebooks and workstations) is further recovering in the third quarter of this year, with shipments reaching 11 million units, down 16% from the same period last year, but up 15% from the previous quarter.

CTOnews.com summarizes the shipments of all kinds of products in the current quarter:

Desktops (including desktop workstations): 3.4 million units were shipped, down 9% from the same period last year.

Notebooks (including mobile workstations): 7.8 million units were shipped, a year-on-year decrease of 18%.

Tablet: 7.4 million units shipped, up 16% from the same period last year.

Canalys said that the significant growth in the tablet market is due to the continued development of seasonal promotions and the digitization of education and entertainment.

▲ figure source Canalys, which predicts that Chinese mainland's PC market (excluding tablets) will decline by 18% for the whole of 2023 and grow slightly by 4% in 2024. This growth momentum is expected to be achieved in the second quarter and beyond, as investment in IT by large companies in some strategic industries will drive a further recovery in business demand.

Lenovo still ranked first in terms of brand shipments in the quarter, with HP in second place with an 11% market share, and the acquisition of Poly further strengthened its commercial product portfolio.

Huawei ranks third, and its market share has increased despite a 5 per cent year-on-year drop in sales. Dell and Asustek ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, but both suffered sharp declines of 36%.

In terms of tablet performance, Canalys expects the Chinese mainland tablet market to grow 5% this year to 28 million units and remain stable in 2024. The top five manufacturers in the quarter were Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi, Glory and Lenovo.
