CTOnews.com, December 22 (Xinhua)-- Blue Origin, the space company of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Cerberus, another private equity firm, are interested in buying United launch Alliance (ULA), according to a report in the Wall Street Journal citing sources on the 21st local time.

In this report, ULA is described as a competitor to Musk's SpaceX. ULA has received a takeover offer from Jeff Bezos and the private equity executives, according to people familiar with the matter. However, it remains to be seen exactly what price institutions such as Blue Origin will quote to ULA, or even whether a deal is possible.

▲ Touyuan ULA and people familiar with the potential deal said the valuation of ULA could be "challenging" because the company's performance-generating rocket was a model that was about to be discontinued.

CTOnews.com Note: ULA, a joint venture between Boeing and Lockheed Martin, was founded in 2006. Before Musk's SpaceX emerged, the US Defense Department's rocket launch business was basically "monopolized" by ULA.

ULA has reportedly completed more than 155 launches over the years, but Boeing and Lockheed Martin are now looking to sell ULA because the company is phasing out two existing rocket models, Delta and Atlas, and plans to replace them with a new rocket called Vulcan Centaur.
