#Download source code and compress

sudo tar xf postgresql-9.5.2.tar.gz

cd postgresql-9.5.2

./ configure --prefix=/usr/local/pgsql--with-pgport=5432 --with-openssl

Run make prompt:

sudo apt-get install make

#Compile installation

make -j 4 && sudo make install

#Install contrib

cd contrib

make

sudo make install

#Add Users and Groups

sudo adduser postgres

#Create database catalog and authorize

sudo mkdir /usr/local/pgsql/data

sudo chown -R postgres:postgres/usr/local/pgsql/data

su postgres

#Initialize database and start database

/usr/local/pgsql/bin/initdb -D /usr/local/pgsql/data/

/usr/local/pgsql/bin/postgres -D /usr/local/pgsql/data>logfile 2>&1 &

#Create database test

/usr/local/pgsql/bin/createdb test

#Enter the test database

/usr/local/pgsql/bin/psql test

#Add startup script to system services

sudo cp /usr/local/src/postgresql-9.5.2/contrib/start-scripts/linux /etc/init.d/postgresql

sudo chmod +x /etc/init.d/postgresql

#View postgresql services

sudo service postgresql status

#View database process running status

ps aux | grep postgres

#Set to boot

sudo update-rc.d postgresql defaults
