If we choose the wrong operating system when creating ECS Cloud Virtual Machine, we need to use another operating system, which can usually be achieved by replacing the system disk.

Replacing a system disk means reassigning a system disk (the system disk ID is updated), and the original system disk is released.

1. Log in to Cloud Virtual Machine ECS Management Console. In the left navigation bar, click Instance and select Region.

2. Find the instance where you need to replace the system disk, and in the Actions column, select More-Instance Status-Stop.

3. In the Actions column, select More> Disks and Mirrors> Replace System Disk. In the pop-up dialog box, carefully read the system disk replacement notes, click OK, replace the system disk.

4. On the Replace System Disk page, select the desired image. The system disk can be expanded according to business requirements and new image requirements. If the new operating system is Windows, only password authentication can be used. If the instance is an I/O optimized instance and the new operating system is Linux, you can choose to use password authentication or SSH key pair authentication. You must set a login password or bind an SSH key pair.

5. Confirm configuration cost: generally refers to the cost of system disk. Click OK to replace after confirmation. Log in to the ECS console of the cloud host to monitor the system status. It takes about 10 minutes to complete the OS replacement. When complete, the Cloud Virtual Machine instance starts automatically.
