Grand "fireworks display", astronauts view Russian "Progress MS-23" cargo spacecraft returning to Earth

CTOnews.com, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) astronauts on the International Space Station sat in the front row and watched a rare "fireworks show."

Russia's Progress MS-23 cargo ship detached from the International Space Station yesterday (November 29), carrying large amounts of rubbish that is no longer needed.

Russian astronaut Oleg Kononenko said the returning "Progress MS-23" cargo ship was carrying old equipment, household trash and things that experts thought the space station no longer needed. The picture attached to CTOnews.com is as follows:

Four hours after the Progressive MS-23 detached from docking, NASA astronaut Jasmine Mogleberry (Jasmin Moghbeli) discovered the Progressive MS-23 cargo spacecraft and took pictures of it burning into the Earth's atmosphere.

"it [refers to atmospheric combustion] lasts shorter than I expected, about 2-3 minutes, which reminds me of fireworks, especially when it bursts," Mogleberry said in a tweet.

Most of the spacecraft and their contents were burned over the earth, but some unburned materials crashed into non-navigational waters of the southern Pacific Ocean, the Russian space agency Roscosmos reported on Wednesday.

The Progress MS-23 spacecraft ("Progress-84", Progress 84) was launched from the Baikonur Space launch site in Kazakhstan on May 24, 2023, carrying a total of 2491 kg of materials, including 499kg of propellant for the space station, 630L of drinking water, 40kg of bottled nitrogen and approximately 1322 kg of medical and health supplies, clothing, food and other equipment and supplies.
