CTOnews.com, December 1, according to the latest report released by market research firm Canalys, global PC shipments are expected to return to 5% year-on-year growth in the fourth quarter of 2023 after seven consecutive quarters of declines.

The agency believes that shipments are expected to reach 267 million units in 2024, 8 per cent higher than in 2023, thanks to positive factors such as the Windows update cycle and the emergence of AI and Arm-based devices.

The global PC market is on the road to recovery and will return to 2019 shipments by next year.

The impact of AI on the PC industry will be profound, and leading companies from OEM, processor manufacturers and operating system providers will focus on providing new AI model catalogs in 2024, which will boost demand for updates, especially in the business sector.

It is estimated that by 2024, the total shipment share of PC with AI function will reach about 19%. This covers all M-Series Mac products as well as expected new products in the Windows ecosystem.

After a long delay in procurement, the business sector is expected to see demand growth in 2024.

Channels are positive about PC business performance next year, with 47 per cent of partners surveyed in November expecting their Windows PC shipments to grow by 10 per cent or more next year.

Small and medium-sized enterprises have been highlighted as a huge opportunity and recent macroeconomic difficulties have had a greater impact on their PC procurement budget capacity in the past few quarters.

Driven by Qualcomm's X Elite chip, shipments of Arm-based PC are expected to increase significantly next year.
