CTOnews.com, December 12 (Xinhua)-- the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) recently captured images of supernova debris in Cassiopeia A, 10,000 light-years from Earth, which formed 340 years after a star exploded violently.

During the White House Christmas celebration in 2023, NASA and first Lady Jill Biden shared the photo at the first White House Advent Calendar event, calling it the "Cosmic Christmas Bauble".

The subject of this image is Cassiopeia A, created using NIRCam infrared wavelength data from the Weber Telescope, and the whole picture is 10 light-years long.

Danny Milisavljevic, a scientist at Purdue University, said: "at the NIRCam resolution, we can see how the star broke after the explosion, leaving filaments similar to tiny pieces of glass. After so many years of research, Cas A has now solved these details, which is really incredible, which provides us with transformative insights into how the star exploded."
