CTOnews.com, December 14 (Xinhua)-- the International Center for Neuromorphological Systems (ICNS) at the University of West Sydney recently issued an announcement announcing that the world's first supercomputer capable of simulating a human brain network, DeepSouth, is scheduled to be put into use next year.

CTOnews.com learned from the report that Shennan's neural morphological system, which simulates biological processes, can perform 228 trillion synaptic operations per second, simulating large pulse neural networks, which is comparable to the estimated operating speed of the human brain.

Professor Andr é van Schaik, director of ICNS, says DeepSouth is different from other supercomputers because it is designed to operate like neural networks, requiring less power and achieving higher efficiency.

The professor said that although Shennan is not as powerful as existing supercomputers, it will help to advance the understanding of neural morphological computing and biological brains, leading to a better understanding of how the brain works.

Researchers say Shennan will boost neuroscience research and pave the way for higher computational energy efficiency. If the technology can be miniaturized, it will improve the autonomous ability of drones and robots.
