CTOnews.com, December 19 (Xinhua)-- A medical team from the case Comprehensive Cancer Center has announced that it is about to launch a new study to explore whether Apple's Apple Watch can be used as a tool for remote monitoring of glioblastoma.
CTOnews.com note: glioblastoma is a cancer in which cells grow in the brain or spinal cord. These cells grow rapidly and can invade and destroy healthy tissue.
Glioblastoma forms in astrocytes that support nerve cells and can occur at any age, but it is most common in the elderly and more common in men.
In this study, the medical team plans to require participants with glioblastoma to wear Apple Watch and record all health events or symptoms, so as to analyze the data, gain insight into possible clues to glioblastoma, and evaluate whether Apple Watch can help detect changes in symptoms during cancer treatment.
Researchers use Apple's open source framework, ResearchKit, to build applications and collect data securely.
The study is expected to begin in April 2024 and be completed in 2025. The study will be conducted at the case Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Tausig Cancer Institute at the Cleveland Clinic.
Abnormal changes in heart rate or respiratory rate will be observed before seizures or other transient neurological symptoms, and the team hopes to find clues to glioblastoma, the team said.
