CTOnews.com, December 22 (Xinhua) according to the latest research report released by TechInsights, global TV streaming equipment shipments increased by 3.5% year-on-year in Q3 in 2023. Smart TVs account for 70% of global TV streaming devices, digital streaming media players account for 16%, and game consoles account for 14%.

▲ image source TechInsightsCTOnews.com learned from the report that global shipments of smart TVs (Smart TV) fell 2% year-on-year in Q3, slightly more than 44.5 million units. Samsung is the world's largest smart TV brand, with a market share of 20%, both LG and TCL 11%. Amazon is the largest digital streaming device brand, with a 40 per cent market share, followed by Roku (20 per cent), Apple (18 per cent) and Google (15 per cent).

TechInsights analysts say that in most parts of the world, high inflation has squeezed consumers' discretionary spending, and many potential TV buyers are giving priority to spending elsewhere. The rising cost of living has also changed people's buying behavior, with people more likely to buy cheaper brands, which has curbed the growth of advanced display smart TVs such as OLED.

For digital streaming media players (Digital Media Streamers), global shipments of independent streaming media players increased by 4% year-on-year to 17.6 million in 2023, and the market peaked in 2021. With the continuous growth of the ownership of smart TV, more and more people regard smart TV as the main access device.

On the Game Console side, thanks to the continued popularity of PS5 and the successful re-release of Nintendo's Zelda games, global console shipments rose 11% year-on-year to 9.4 million units in the quarter. Sony narrowly beat Nintendo (39.0%) with a market share of 39.2% in 2023, making it the world's largest game console brand.
