On November 21, Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a recent interview that he, former CEO Steve Jobs (Steve Jobs) and Apple employees should share the "honor" of the company's success. Cook also said that if Jobs were alive today, he would still be Apple's chief executive.

It is not easy to be a good successor to Steve Jobs. But Cook, Apple's current chief executive, said he did not see Jobs as a competitor.

Cook recently appeared in a BBC podcast. Host Dua Lipa asked Cook about his experience at Apple.

Apple's market capitalization has soared since Mr. Cook took over from Mr. Jobs, Mr. Lipa said. She asked if Cook thought he had been praised enough for his work.

"I don't think so at all," Cook said. "Steve is an original, and I think only Steve can create Apple. We owe him a debt of gratitude, and there is no doubt that if he were alive today, the company would have done a great job and he would continue to be CEO."

Cook started working at Apple in 1998. At that time, Apple was in poor financial condition and was on the verge of bankruptcy. As an expert on the supply chain, Cook helped Apple achieve ultra-high profit margins. Cook joined the top ranks of Apple in 2011 and took over as chief executive a few months before Jobs died. But Cook was more than happy to share his achievements with Jobs.

"I don't think it's a matter of who takes the credit. In addition, I can work with a group of people I love, all of whom have a strong ability to work. So the credit belongs to everyone."

Under Cook's leadership, Apple's market capitalization reached $1 trillion in 2018, making it the first American company to join the trillion-dollar club. Apple's market capitalization reached $2 trillion in 2020 and soared to $3 trillion by September 2023.

Although Cook was hand-picked by Jobs, there were different voices during his tenure. One of the main criticisms of Cook is that he comes from the company's finance department rather than Apple's design team. Even Jobs himself said Cook was "not a product maker." Jobs is notoriously close to Apple's design team and former design director Jony Ive.

Cook is reported to have clashed with Ivy from time to time. But Cook later refuted the claim, saying the report was "not in line with reality" and a "lack of understanding" of the way Apple and its product design team worked. Ivy left Apple in 2019 but has been providing consulting services to the company.

Although Apple's market capitalization is more than three times that of Jobs, fewer new independent products were released during the Cook administration. Fortunately, that is changing.

Apple is about to launch its first important new product since the Apple Watch, the Apple Touch Vision Pro. The device was developed without the supervision of Steve Jobs.

Cook has been the driving force behind Apple's services business. In the face of increased competition in the smartphone business, the services business has been Apple's bright spot. Cook himself was praised for his ability to try new things and take responsibility.

The rumored Apple car is still in preparation. The success of the Apple Watch business, the upcoming Vision Pro, and the massive growth of Apple's services business suggest that Cook is also building his own achievements.
