Nvidia's FG technology is integrated into DLSS 3, limited to GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards, while AMD's AFMF is integrated into FSR3 technology, there is a natural barrier between the two, so for players, have you ever thought of starting two frame generation technologies in one game at the same time?

South Korean media QuasarZone has made a bold attempt to use both Nvidia and AMD graphics cards in PC, which can significantly improve the frame rate of the game, but there are still some problems.

In the experiment, QuasarZone uses Radeon RX 6600 and GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards, AMD graphics cards connect to the main monitor, and RTX 4090 graphics cards render games.

In theory, when rendering a game, the game is rendered by a GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card, which uses DLSS 3 for frame generation; then these images are output to the Radeon RX 6600 graphics card, and then the inserted frames are generated again using AFMF, and finally output to the monitor.

The combination of FG and AFMF can significantly increase the average frame rate per second, but may result in a 1% low frame rate drop. Note: the 1% Low frame rate records the number of frames generated during the game, but it is based on Frame time to filter out the slowest 1%, divided by 1% of the total time recorded in the game.

The 1% Low frame rate is usually used to indicate the fluency of the game. Although the combination of FG and AFMF increases the average frame rate, the overall fluency of some games decreases.

In addition, the combination of FG and AFMF naturally increases the power burden due to the use of 2 graphics cards. In addition, AFMF does not work for some game window modes and needs to run in full-screen mode.

AMD and NVIDIA will not combine their frame generation technology at the official or unofficial level, artificially combining FG and AFMF will inevitably lead to game instability, but in spite of this, the QuasarZone experiment is still very interesting.
