It will be widely used in broadband optoelectronic information systems such as optical communication, optical interconnection, optical computing, optoelectronic measurement, microwave photons and so on.

The main function of high-speed electro-optic modulator is to convert electrical signals into optical signals, which is an indispensable core device of optoelectronic system. With the rapid development of optoelectronic information industry, the requirements for the bandwidth and speed of electro-optic modulators are increasing.

Wuhan Donghu National Independent Innovation demonstration Zone said that at present, China can only develop and produce electro-optic modulators with bandwidth within 40GHz, while electro-optic modulators whose bandwidth exceeds 67GHz are monopolized by a small number of companies, such as the United States and Japan, and are expensive, which seriously threatens the independent development of the industry.

In order to make up for the deficiency of China's high-end optoelectronic devices supply chain as soon as possible, the National Information Optoelectronics Innovation Center has sharpened its sword in three years, and has conquered and mastered the key technologies such as ultra-high bandwidth modulator chip, RF high-performance transmission substrate, high-frequency electrical interconnection welding process, shell cavity resonance suppression and so on. All the core chips and components have been localized, and three high-band optical intensity modulators 40GHz, 60GHz and 90GHz have been released this year. Recently, the first localization of 110GHz electro-optic intensity modulator has been successfully realized, which fills the domestic gap. This series of products have been verified and ordered by a number of industrial users and research institutes in China, which will effectively alleviate the "neck jam" problem of high-end optical modulators.
