CTOnews.com, December 12 (Xinhua)-- Apple today released an official update of watchOS 10.2 for Apple Watch users, introducing some new features, one of the most important of which is support for accessing and recording healthy App data using Siri.

In a recent interview, Apple executives further explained the feature and why it is currently limited to Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 devices.

Apple initially revealed at a special event in September that it would add support for Apple Watch to access and record healthy App data through Siri. At the time, the company said the feature would be launched by the end of the year, and now it has made good on that promise.

In an interview with CNET, Deidre Caldbeck, senior director of product marketing for Apple Watch and Health App, said the new feature is part of Apple's efforts to make health data as accessible as possible. "one of our major concerns is to make health data easily accessible, so we think this feature will undoubtedly bring us closer to this goal," Caldbeck explained.

Caldbeck also stressed that Apple took so long to add health queries to Siri because they wanted to do so in a way that protected users' privacy. Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 are the first Apple Watch models that can process requests locally with low latency on the device.

Katie Skinner, senior manager in charge of the Apple user Privacy Project, also highlighted the privacy-first approach to health records through Siri. The function is designed to follow four principles adhered to by all of the company's health products: "data minimization, on-device processing, transparency, and control and safety."

At the beginning of the release, recording health data through Siri provides access to more than 20 healthy App data types, but Caldbeck says there will be more features in the future: "We are always looking for ways to improve and enhance the functionality. Therefore, we will certainly continue to explore adding more data types and provide more access to our health functions through Siri."

CTOnews.com notes that in addition to accessing and recording healthy App data through Siri only on Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2, there is a limitation to this feature. Currently, Siri requests related to health App data only support English (US) and Mandarin (Chinese mainland). Apple said "more languages" will be launched in the future, but so far there is no specific timetable.
