CTOnews.com, December 14, according to the latest report released by market research firm Counterpoint Research, the number of smartphones supporting wireless charging increased by 2% in the third quarter of 2023 compared with the same period last year, accounting for 26% of all smartphones, setting a new record.

The global wireless charging smartphone sales report points out that despite the downturn in the global smartphone market, the "high-end" trend driven by consumer upgrades (smartphones worth more than $700) remains strong.

Apple dominated the wireless charging smartphone market with 71% of the market in 2022. It was 62% in the third quarter of this year, down 6 percentage points from the same period last year; Android-branded phones that support wireless charging grew 23% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2023.

In terms of the Android brand, Samsung has 51 per cent market share with the Galaxy S series, but sales of the brand fell 2 per cent in the third quarter from a year earlier, resulting in a 13 per cent decline in market share.

Google's introduction of wireless charging technology into its affordable Pixel 7a has more than tripled sales.

The share of sales of wireless charging smartphones by Android brand from the third quarter of 2022 to the third quarter of 2023, while the flagship products of the Chinese brand began to come standard with wireless charging, including the Huawei Mate 60 series with proprietary 5G chips, which nearly tripled in popularity.

Xiaomi's flagship model 13 series is a bestseller, with an annual growth rate of 112%, accounting for 15% of sales.

Overall, shipments of smartphones that support wireless charging rose 2 per cent year-on-year, thanks to strong sales of Huawei's Mate 60 series and the positive impact of Samsung's new S23 FE series.
