Samsung launches two ISOCELL Vizion sensors: for future XR head display devices

Shulou( Report-- December 19, Samsung announced today that it will release two sensors, ISOCELL Vizion 63D and ISOCELL Vizion 931, for AR / VR head display and smartphone products. Note: the ISOCELL Vizion 63D is the ToF (Time of Flight) sensor and the ISOCELL Vizion 931 is the global shutter sensor, both of which are expected to be equipped in Samsung's future hybrid reality headsets.

The ISOCELL Vizion 63DISOCELL Vizion 63D is a 3D ToF sensor for measuring depth and distance, which can measure depth and distance with high accuracy and clarity.

The sensor can capture images at the speed of QVGA (320x240pixel) 30fps, and the 1x6.4inch sensor has 3.5 μ m pixels and can capture video with VGA resolution (640x480pixel).

The sensor calculates the phase shift between emitted and reflected light, understands things in its surroundings in a three-dimensional way, and can be used in AR or VR headphones, robots and smartphones for secure facial biometric recognition.

The ISOCELL Vizion 63D is the industry's first sensor to integrate depth sensing hardware ISP (image signal processor), which means it does not require a separate chip and can capture depth information and process it.

Compared with traditional sensors, such as Samsung's previous chip ISOCELL Vizion 40D, the power consumption is reduced by 33%.

ISOCELL Vizion 63D uses BST (backscatter technology), which has the highest quantum efficiency and light absorption level, up to 38% at the infrared wavelength of 940nm (nm). This reduces noise and motion blur and improves clarity.

ISOCELL Vizion 931 this is a global shutter sensor that can photograph fast-moving objects without distortion (no jelly effect).

This is similar to the way the human eye sees the scene. It can capture clear and undistorted images of fast-moving objects, which means it is ideal for AR headphones, drones, robots and VR headphones.

It has a resolution of 640 x 640 pixels and is suitable for iris recognition, eye movement tracking, and face and gesture detection in XR (mixed reality) headsets. It has the highest level of quantum efficiency in the industry, providing 60 per cent quantum efficiency at 850nm infrared wavelengths.

It can use a single wire to connect four cameras to the application processor, reducing circuit complexity and improving space efficiency. It provides more flexibility for device makers, and Samsung is expected to be equipped in the upcoming hybrid reality show.
